"Late in 2015, I realized that simply taking a flight of stairs caused me to be out of breath. My New Years resolution was to do something about it. Knowing that I needed accountability and seeing that several of my friends had experienced success with CrossFit, I joined CrossFit White River.Nine months later there are still many skills that I cannot do in the gym that I want to master. That being said, over that time I have dropped 3 pant sizes and find myself in better shape than any time in the last 20 years. If it is time for you to address your physical fitness level, join us at CrossFit White River. You will find your classmates encouraging and the coaches knowledgeable and patient. If you are faithful to attend, you will make gains (regardless of you present fitness level). I guarantee it."
Finding the motivation to workout was always one of the biggest obstacles in my life prior to joining CrossFit White River. My days would usually consist of 1 pack of cigarettes, 1 pizza, and endless amounts of Mountain Dew to get myself through the day. I honestly had too much time to sit around and do nothing so I found myself drinking and smoking often to pass the time. After a few years of this I decided something had to change and I walked into CrossFit White River to try their On Ramp course that they were providing at the time. The beginner classes that I took were extremely hard but I made a promise to myself that I was gonna sign up not long after starting. What started as just a "I have nothing else to do why not try this CrossFit thing" evolved into something I could have never imagined. I no longer smoke cigarettes or waste away behind the screen of a television for 6 hours a day. The changes that happened from joining CrossFit didn't happen all at once but by surrounding myself with the supportive community that CrossFit White River has I've grown in many ways. I found a new love for yoga and jiu jitsu by getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things, I'm more aware of what I eat and I feel great, I've grown spiritually and gained friends that will last a lifetime. I'm not saying all of these things will happen for you just by joining because that's not realistic but if you are willing to put in work you will be surrounding yourself with the best people to help you become "The Best You Possible".
"Over the 50 years since I graduated from high school, I was an off and on exerciser. Over the years, kids, work, etc., interrupted my efforts to be fit. And to be honest, I didn't know what I should be doing. As an empty nester, I tried working out on my own, but just didn't see any improvement. So, at the beginning of 2017, on the recommendation of one of my sons, I started the Catalyst Team at CrossFit White River. The coaches were great about scaling exercises and providing instruction. In 9 months, I’ve lost weight (about 3%), reduced body fat, gotten stronger, and my resting heart rate has dropped 10 bpm (17%). The variety helps my muscles recover, adds some challenge, and makes the workouts interesting. And getting more fit has made it a lot more fun to play with my granddaughter, go on hikes, and do other activities."
"I started CrossFit in the fall of 2013. I was a junior in high school and my friend talked me into going. CrossFit first appealed to me because I thought everyone would think I was a badass. Once I was a few months into it, I was able to pull the heavy weights and mastered things like double-unders. I started thinking, “Hey, I am a badass.” This is how I went about CrossFit for my first two years. When I moved to Ball State for my freshman year, I joined CrossFit White River and for a while I stayed the same way I had always been. Then, in December, I became injured. I had no idea what to do. I couldn’t lift heavy weights or jump rope anymore, so I just stopped. I didn’t do any CrossFit for two months. I lost my strength and I gained weight. When I got back to school I realized what had happened and became depressed. I didn’t know who I was and my self-esteem was nonexistent. For two whole years I had based my entire self-worth on how much weight I could lift, where I sat on the leaderboard, and how fit I looked. I was broken. After a few weeks of being back at school I decided to return to CrossFit. It was really hard. I struggled mentally, physically and emotionally. My entire mindset had to change. Instead of lifting the heaviest weights, I was back to light weight with a focus on form in order to rehabilitate my injury. I felt like I was starting CrossFit all over again. Slowly, but surely, I lost the weight I had put on and my form improved. I became very conscious of movement and how well I was moving. From then on, my priorities shifted from being at the top of the leaderboard to self-improvement. I decided to get my Level 1 in June of 2016 and after that, I really developed a passion for CrossFit. When I started doing things correctly and focusing on form over weight I was exposed to all of the benefits CrossFit offers. Lifelong health and challenging myself became more important than maxing out my lift or having abs. I would have never changed my mindset if it hadn’t been for CrossFit, and particularly CrossFit White River. My journey has been humbling and joining this box has forever changed my life. I am grateful for each day I get to come in and better myself."
